O'Carolan's Daughters

O'Carolan's Daughters began in 1995 with Sarah Wilfong, then 12, playing Celtic fiddle accompanied by her mother, Betty, on guitar. Their affinity for the music of the 17th century Irish harper, Turlough O'Carolan, led to the name of their group, but they soon expanded into traditional and contemporary folk music, with a particular flair for the off-beat, humorous song.

As they become regular performers at Chicago-area coffeehouses and Borders Books, Sarah and Betty were frequently joined onstage by the junior members of O'Carolan's Daughters, Erica and Adrienne Wilfong. These two younger sisters learned the words and developed their own harmony by singing along on the perpetual car rides of the busy family. As a quartet, O'Carolan's repertoire ranges from Renaissance tunes to Irish ballads to modern pop, along with a smattering of original material and anything else that catches their ear.

Every performance features some top-notch Irish fiddling by Sarah, who has won several awards for her music and has performed at the Bristol, WI Renaissance Faire since she was 12. Sarah also performs regularly in the Celtic group, CrossRogues, with Rob Middleton, Lucas Morgan, and Jesse Linder. In addition to appearing on O'Carolan's Daughters and Friends Having Fun, she is on the newly released CrossRogues: The Obligatory Self-Titled Debut Album and is the featured guest artist on Jesse Linder's new CD Easy and Free.
