When I first saw this watercolor on New Harbinger Publisher's web site, I found myself strongly drawn to the painting. The mood, the setting, the bookstore in the background... it was as though I could remember being there, that I was the woman sitting quietly, engrossed in her book.
With a bit of research, I was able to find the artist who created the original painting. This is what I learned: The Bookstore was created by watercolor artist Peter Fanning in 1998 for a New Harbinger catalog cover. The setting is loosely based on the town square in Healdsburg, California, and his wife posed for the reader. The bookstore is imaginary.
